Trident - Time to Decide!

Does the UK need weapons of Mass Destruction?

A public meeting with Fabian Hamilton MP

Tony Blair and the cabinet want to spend between £25 billion and £70 billion on replacing the Trident nuclear missile system. This breaches the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. We believe that, rather than being a vital part of Britain's defence, such weapons make us less secure by encouraging other countries to build their own nuclear capability. Spending on these weapons will also take money from our schools, hospitals and other public services.

A vital vote in the Commons will take place in March. Come to hear Fabian Hamilton explain why he is taking a stand
in Parliament against replacing Trident and help plan action now.

Lobby of MP George Mudie's Surgery

Lobby picture

On Saturday 20th January, about 15 supporters of the Harehills Stop the War group lobbied East Leeds MP George Mudie's constituency surgery. A delegation tackled George about his views on Islamophobia, the current situation in Iraq and the proposed replacement for Trident nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, outside Harehills library, signatures were collected from many passers-by for a petition calling for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and a number of people signed postcards, which were then delivered to the MP, which ask him how he will be voting in Parliament on Trident replacement and on the continued occupation of Iraq.
